Rachel Phipps

Rachel probably instantly regretted ringing her friend Denise to inform her of the shooting.  Minutes later she is driving to London to help the stunned mother find out exactly what's happened.

Rachel's main purpose on the journey is - it seems - to be the emotional punchbag for Denise's anguish and shame.  But that is far from the extent of her involvement.
She excels on the night by not being as hysterical as Denise, thinking of consequences and in turn, thinking of Denise's husband and his right to know.

Armed with a secret or two of her own, Rachel becomes one to watch for the readers and the journalists.
